Self-guiding & SBIG ST-7E

The self guiding with a  ST-10XME doesn't change in anything the calibration and the different procedures of CCD imaging. The ST-10XME is installed to the rear of the FDR, and profits of the counter-rotation. It sees the sky as if the LX200 was in polar alignment.

The self-guiding must be used, because the PPEC correction and backlash compensation of the LX200 is not active in altazimuth mode, except for the 16" LX200.

If you did a test with STAR-2000 system and a Starlight CCD, please send me your results and your pictures. I am very interested. Thank you.

DISADVANTAGES

The FDR, in spite of its several advantages, is not perfect, like all system. The FDR is heavy, you must think to use more counter-weights . For those that use their LX200 on battery, it is necessary to know that the FDR is supplied by the LX200.

The FDR possesses a protection device to avoid that it or accessories don't come to hit the embase of the fork. You cannot slew an object with an altitude that is superior or equal to 50°. The LX200 will display you: " No slew, object over 50° ". But you can modify this number, but in this case you will do it with a great caution. If you begin a CCD image and that during the exposure the altitude of the LX200 reaches or pass the 50°, the FDR will emit a beep of warning, but will continue normally. At that moment, don't worry, the security has been fixed large, so you can finish your exposure.
